The course changed very slightly in 2022 (due to the path at Ritter Park). We will be continuing to use this new course. A map update will come soon!
The course is flat and fast and USATF certified. It is a perfect course to run to qualify for Boston. Runners start on 3rd Avenue next to Joan C. Edward Stadium and run through downtown Huntington past Pullman Square, next to the Ohio River, and through Ritter Park among other places. The highlight is to run through Marshall University campus on their way to a goal-line finish in Marshall Football Stadium.
For the safety and enjoyment of all event participants, the courses are restricted to registered runners/walkers and official race personnel only.
No dogs, no strollers, no baby joggers, no bikes (other than official Bike EMS and Patrol Teams) , no inline skates, roller skates will be allowed on the course.
Violators will be disqualified and escorted from the course by race officials.
For the safety of all, the use of headphones is discouraged.
Note: Some of the course is on the crushed limestone path around Ritter Park and the trail that leads to the park. It is very compacted and fast. You do not need special shoes for this. The total of the trails on this surface is only 3 miles approximately.
The total ascent for the Marshall-St. Mary’s University Marathon is 201.62 feet.
